Memo Monday

Memo Monday
A few things about today.....

I knew last Thursday that 3 supervisors (they all have different roles) would be coming to observe in my classroom today.  I had a lot I wanted to get done this morning in preparation for their coming (I couldn't do it last week-I had an early childhood conference Th/Fri) I got up on time, got ready for work, got on the bus and realized I forgot my laptop.  There are days when that would not be a big deal but today was not one of those days!  Thankfully I had taken an early bus and so I had time to go home, get my laptop and catch a later bus.

I had lost about an hour of prep time but I told myself  it was OK, that I still had about a 1/2 hr prep time before school.  When I walked in the school, I stopped to check my office mailbox and saw candy and a note from the principal thanking me for doing parking lot duty this week.  Rats.  But I figured I could use the blessings!

Got to my classroom, met up with my aides and said something dramatic (after I said hello, etc of course!) like "life can be cruel sometimes!"  They were great-they listened to the story of my morning and music to my ears, said, "How can we help you so you won't be stressed?" Love them :)

And..... we scored 5's in nearly all areas of the observation, I was so proud of us and so grateful!

Had a funny experience on the playground today.... A. did not want to leave the playground to get in her car to go home.  She was throwing her whole weight against the ground and I was trying my darndest to guide her along but it was hard and she was crying and kept looking back towards the playground.  Thankuflly, my supervisor Terri was nearby, saw the situation and walked with A to the car.  Thank goodness!  When asked what was wrong, A pointed at me and tearfully said, "I don't love her!"

And getting to the title of this post.... "memo monday" There was a black and gray clothing memo today. Between me and my aides, the district supervisors and the speech language pathologist, that's 8 people, each of us were wearing some form of black and/or gray. Hilarious!  I think the memo is red for tomorrow.....

Together Thursday

Today Saige and I made great strides with the "stranger danger" phase.  She let me hold her and play with her.... without crying!!!! Totally made my heart smile.  Derbs, Saige & Ashley were there for Ashley's violin lesson so I played with Saige during the tail-end of the lesson. I kept my distance from her for awhile, just watching her play with the toys downstairs but I got closer eventually and she didn't freak out!  She even let me hold her! Ahhhh....... Saige. I've missed you :)

We also did some piano playing-she only plays 1 key at a time though......  Derbs & Saige also stayed for a breakfast with me, mom and dad.  They had grapefuit (ew) we all had Belgain waffles (yum!) and Saige sat in a grown up chair at the table, with a big grin, so proud of herself! We all get a good chuckle out of watching her move around-she can walk but right now it's faster to her to crawl.  Except she doesn't "hands and knees" crawl.  She walks on her knees, arms pumping back and forth as fast as she can go.  Kind of like a "baby power walker"

Welcome Wednesday

TodayI went to Mom and Dad's house, got there while the Ethan was finishing his violin lesson. And the other kids there-Sara, Johnathon, Brandon, Lexi gave me a HUGE welcome.  Feel the love, right???  All of the kids came running up the stairs, calling "Heather!" Wanting me to pick them up and give them a hug, and then after I put them down they hugged my legs. Ahhhhh.....  love :)

After they went home my Mom and I watched another episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?"  This time it was with Paula Deen. I decided she does have really great hair!  It still makes Mom and I scratch our heads at times that people know SO little about even their grandparents but we like watching anyway :)

Then we watched Bruce Lindsay's farewell on KSL news.  What a classy guy with a farewell speech to match.  For the record, I my cousin was friends with his daughter so I have been to his house before and got a drink of water from his fridge. It was very good water.

Sometimes They Don't Work So Good......

Sometimes They Don't Work So Good.....
Here's some insight into times lately when my ears or mouth don't work so good.....

-One of my coworkers has a thick accent where the "z" sounds more like an "s" She was telling me about how one of her children had been on a field trip to the "zoo" but I heard it as "soup"  So here I am, picturing a bunch of kids in line at a soup kitchen, volunteering or learning about welfare or something. haha....

-The other day I called a place of business and asked if I could either talk to the individual or leave a message.  The receptionist said I could leave a message.  I paused, waiting for a beep/ring for voicemail.  The receptionist kindly asked me, "Do you still want to leave a message?"  I said, "Oh, sorry! I was waiting for a voicemail."  She said, "No, we do it live here." That one kept me chuckling for awhile.....

-Just today, talking my sister I said "I was going to ask you something" And she thought I said "I"m going to Afton, Wyoming." Nope.  Someday.....

Wright Wednesday

Recently my friend from work & I exchanged blog addresses.  Potentially having someone new to check out my blog.... Fresh Motivation to blog!!! And keeping in line with my "alliteration blog titles" her last name is Wright so..... this one's for you!

And here's a recap of favorite things as of late:
-getting a letter in the mail from my nephew Wick, to thank me (there were 4 thank you's actually) for the day we spent together a while ago.  A letter from a 5 yr old nephew?!?! Completely makes my heart smile.
-Stopping by parents house to visit.  Granted I visit the pantry as well...... (cashews, granola bars, chocolate chips, chocolate covered raisins, etc) but I really do enjoy being around them!  We also enjoy watching episodes of "Who Do You Think You Are?" The last one we saw-Lionel Richie. Had no idea he was such a father with young kids, a classy guy, in fact!
-Breakfast with niece Katie at Kneaders, breakfast with cousin Marchelle @ Corner Bakery Cafe.

-My garden is growing! Peas, strawberries, broccoli, spinach.  Putting in some tomatoes on Saturday :)
-Ward activities. Most recent one was multi-cultural night.  I made a pancit (Philipino noodle dish). I felt it was a leap of faith for me to make it but with guided instructions from Mom it all worked out!  After dinner there was a "Game Show" of sorts, asking questions from different people who represented various countries.  Winner got a candy bar. I didn't get to the buzzer fast enough for the Philipino question but I did get a candy bar!  I didn't go up front for the Austrailia question but no one of them knew it so I was allowed to be an audience participant :)  Question:  The equivalent of American peanut butter? Vegimite. Made from yeast and completely.disgusting.

-Completed my 1/4 hr marathon-yay! My 3rd time doing the SLC 1/2.  My new PR is 2:18 and..... I beat my big brother! Granted in his defense, his hamstring cramped up early on but still...... :)  Sabrina ran as well and totally rocked it!!!  Mom and Sabrina's Mom were there along with Faris & Errol to cheer us on. Yay!  That made up for not having the nice man pass out cookies and brownies at mile 10 like he did last year.....

-Had a GREAT trip to Boston! Pics and details to follow

Whiter Wednesday

This morning I went to the dentist. at 7am. Yep. Not exactly how I like to begin my day but this time it wasn't so bad...... No cavities, my smile looks cleaner and whiter, no cavities, I got to work with my favorite hygenist, no cavities....

But equally rewarding was having breakfast with my Mom. She was kind enough to pick me up from the dentist and then drop me off at work. But since I had time to kill before I told them I would be at work I suggested we get breakfast! Initially I thought taco bell but they weren't open yet so..... We settled on McDonalds and I loved every bite of my breakfast burrito. Cheese, potatoes, sausage-mmmmm...... But equally rewarding to the food was just spending time with my Mom. We took about 10 minutes in the parking lot to eat and talk and that was just it. No rush, no other distractions. A great memory. Thanks, Mom!
